Friday, May 8
Employees at the DoubleTree, 555 W. Foothill Blvd., called the Claremont Police Department to report a suspicious person in the area at 11:30 p.m. Arriving officers questioned the 30-year-old Pomona man, determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance, and allegedly found a narcotics pipe with him. He was arrested for misdemeanor being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia, transported to CPD, booked, held for detoxification and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Sunday, May 10
Police stopped a driver for moving violations at 3:09 a.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Towne Avenue. A records check returned a suspended license. After field sobriety tests the driver, a 28-year-old Pomona man, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and driving on a suspended license. He was transported to CPD, booked, held for detox, and released with a citation.
Monday, May 11
Police pulled over a driver for equipment violations near Foothill Boulevard and Garey Avenue at 2:30 a.m. During questioning, the driver, a 38-year-old La Verne man, allegedly told police he had a narcotics pipe, leading to his arrest for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. A records check of the passenger, a 47-year-old Downey man, showed he was on post-release community supervision and police arrested him on a felony warrant request and order after contacting his supervisor. Both were transported and booked at CPD. The La Verne man was released with a citation to appear in court. The Downey man was later taken to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles and held for court.
Thursday, May 14
Police investigated reports of a person setting a dumpster in the 800 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard on fire at 2:15 a.m. During an unrelated matter about 2:55 a.m., police questioned a 26-year-old Pomona man at Towne Avenue and Arrow Highway and arrested him after a records check showed he had a misdemeanor CPD warrant. He was booked and released with a citation. Later, police reviewed footage of the fire and determined the man was involved. He was later found by police and arrested for felony arson on May 15. He was again brought to CPD and booked but was transferred to Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on May 16 to be held for court. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court on Thursday.
Friday, May 15
Police received a burglary report from Rincon Azteca, 586 E. Baseline Road., at 9:45 a.m. Investigators determined that at 5:25 a.m., one or more unknown suspects pried open the rear door of the business, entered and stole about $65. Those with information can call CPD at (909) 399-5411.
Following multiple calls about two men fighting near the 200 block of W. First Street, police arrived at 4:15 p.m. and questioned them. Police determined a 37-year-old Upland man was the primary aggressor. After he attempted to run from officers but was apprehended, he was arrested for felony domestic violence and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was transported to CPD, booked and held for court.
