In praise of praising American capitalism
Dear editor:
Bravo (rising to my feet and clapping my hands) to the June 5 readers’ comment from Kris M. Meyer, “In praise of capitalism.” It was one of the most poignant and at the same time, inspirational posts I’ve read in quite a while. Especially so since the country is quickly approaching its 250th birthday.
Kris’ post would make Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman, Victor Davis Hanson, and Steve Hilton cheer as if the USA scored a goal against Mexico. By contrast, it should be presented under the noses of Bernie Sanders, Zohran Mamdani, equator location challenged AOC, WWI president challenged Judy Chu, and the rest of their ilk. I hope to bump into Kris one day and shake hands.

Doubting the climate crisis
Dear editor:
True words no matter who said them: “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” Just ask P.T. Barnum, William Randolph Hearst (yellow journalism), Vladimir Lenin (communism), and Attorney General Rob Bonta (It’s only a one-time tax).
Be wary of news sources trying to put lipstick on a pig when they include articles with “climate.” They can only offer vague forecasts and hope you don’t think about following the money or the outrage they are trying to stir in you.

Bad timing for new taxes
Dear editor:
You picked a wrong time to tax us again. This message is to Los Angeles County, the City of Claremont and Claremont Unified School District: with the high cost of everything today, you picked a wrong time to tax us again.
