Claremont Graduate University signed the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Diversity No Matter What pledge for higher education on July 20.

The graduate college is the first institution to publicly announce its commitment to inclusivity in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on college admissions. It joins a number of universities nationwide in signing the pledge.

The Reptile Super Show returns to the Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 12 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 13 in Exposition Hall 4. Attendees can view and purchase reptiles, amphibians, turtles, supplies, cages, lights, and supplements, or participate in educational workshops and courses during the event.

In July 1963 — 60 years ago this month — the brand new Claremont Friends Meeting House at 727 Harrison Ave. welcomed Friends for the first time. Previously the Friends had been worshipping in a room at Scripps College. Now they had their own building designed by renowned Claremont architect Fred McDowell, whose wife Emily was a member of the congregation.

Harvey Mudd College students Ryan O’Hara and Lucien Tsai were recently named astronaut scholars by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. The pair were chosen among 68 undergraduate juniors and seniors from 46 universities and colleges around the nation based on “their exemplary academic performance, ingenuity and unique aptitude for research,” a news release read.
