Thanks for the hope
Dear editor:
Thanks for expressing what many of us are struggling to articulate this 250th anniversary of our country’s founding [“Conjuring a reason to celebrate the Fourth of July,” July 3].
Your analysis was profound and reality based. You spoke truth. And amidst it all you inspired us with a glimmering hint of hope.
Thank you for your American prophetic voice.

Village South comments needed
Dear editor:
A while ago, the Village South developer sent the City of Claremont a proposal to change the plan for the southern part of the project from over 500 residences of assorted types, with retail and office space included, to a project of only 140 residences, all three-story condos with more parking spaces than houses, and with no retail or office space.
Instead of connecting the current Village with Peppertree Square and creating an area with both housing and shopping opportunities, this change goes directly against the state requirements to build more affordable, high-density housing near transit hubs.
The developers contend there is no need for any more environmental analysis or public input since an environmental impact report was approved for the previous design. Just before the final day for public comment to be submitted, the developer sent in more information which triggered an extension of the time for public comment until July 20.
Please let the city know you support fighting this change from the original plan for the Village South area, and that it is not at all in keeping with what was developed with input from the city, the public, and, yes, from the developer itself, and approved in 2023. Even if you wrote last month, please write again confirming your opposition to this change.
If you would like more info about various aspects of the issue that you might emphasize, and where to send your letter, go to fbbfs.org/villagesouth. Thanks for supporting our city!

Why?
Dear editor:
Why are Trump supporters still choosing to accept and cover up for and enable him to continue lying to the American people?
