Harvey Mudd alumni awards announced
Six Harvey Mudd College alumni were awarded HMC Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumni Award, which recognizes graduates and their contributions to science, technology, education and community. This year’s honorees include:
ï Retired Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Georgia State University Scott Owen, class of 1965, who helped found Georgia State University’s Department of Computer Science.
ï Professor and Associate Chair of University of Washington’s Astronomy Department Suzanne Hawley, 1981, and still director of the ARC 3.5-meter telescope at Apache Point Observatory in New Mexico.
• Darin Grant, 1996, senior vice president of global technology at Netflix Animation Studios.
• Robert Hulse, 1996 and 1997, Fenwick & West LLP partner.
• Erik Ring, 1996, a LEED Fellow and director of engineering for LPA Design Studios.
• Ajay Mukesh Shah, 2006, co-founder and CEO of medical diagnostics company CytoVale.
The association also named Beth Garrow and Ann Walker, daughters of founding President Joe Platt and first lady Jean Platt, as recipients of the honorary alumni designation, which is given to friends of HMC who align with the college’s mission.
