The Courier hosted a gratitude lunch for donors, advertisers, and board members Tuesday at the Garner House. Guests mingled with the newsroom crew, heard remarks from Publisher Peter Weinberger and General Manager Anna Hoy, and were surveyed about their perception of their local newspaper.

The debate, one of several in the lead-up to the June 2 primary election, was always going to be a big deal — and a nice bit of publicity — for Claremont, Pomona College, and its gem, Bridges Auditorium. But with frontrunner Rep. Eric Swalwell dropping out of the race and resigning from the House this week, California’s governor’s race has suddenly become a major national story.”

“If the United States produces more oil than it uses, why are drivers in Claremont still paying more than $5.50 a gallon? That’s the question a lot of people are asking right now — and the answer comes down to one simple reality: Oil is not local. It’s global.”

Authors living or working in Claremont who would like to showcase their work have until June 30 to RSVP for Friends of the Claremont Library’s annual author’s event, set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, September 19 at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave.

The City of Claremont recently announced the theme for its upcoming Fourth of July celebration: “USA! United We Shine!”

Claremont nonprofits can apply to host a booth at Memorial Park during the city’s Fourth of July celebration by May 15 at claremontca.gov/4th-of-July, select “Festival” tab.

The inaugural Claremont Pride Festival runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd.
